ALINE W. SKAGGS BIOLOGY RESEARCH BUILDING

University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah

view details

The Aline Wilmot Skaggs Biology Building was designed to form the University of Utah's nucleus for biology education and research; as well as to foster greater interaction and attract high caliber faculty that would reinforce the Department's reputation as a premier research and teaching institution. Sited in proximity to the Biology Department's three existing buildings, the new building serves to shape and define a shared "Biology Quad" as well as reinforce the edge of the Science and Engineering corridor leading to the University's center.

There were competition winning commissions for the etched glass on the pedestrian bridge and the colorful tile mosaic in the lobby floor were integrated with the building's architecture to meet the Biology Department's mandate dedicating one percent of the building's cost to artwork.

The new facility includes 24 research lab units, offices and special use rooms, support spaces, 350 seat lecture hall with lobby, prep rooms, restrooms, and study areas.
