This 23,620 square foot grocery store is a new concept for ABC Stores and was designed to meet area demands from tourists and local residents. It combines ABC's successful convenience store format with full-service grocery and specialty departments, a wine bar, sushi restaurant, deli and coffee house. Shopping for both vacationers and Big Island residents is convenient because of their Queen's Marketplace location at Waikoloa Beach Resort less than a mile after exiting the highway.

SCHOFIELD SHOPPING CENTER

A primary objective of this project was to keep the existing shopping center open during all three phases of construction.

Phases 1 & 2 consisted of site work & underground utilities, as well as the majority of the main retail store, outdoor sales area, customer service area and administrative offices. These phases also included the majority of the mall spaces, initial landscaping work, and the completion of the parking lots.

Phase 3 included the construction of the food court and the build-out of the center's vendor spaces. Also included in this final phase was the parking control system, the balance of the landscaping and a large parking lot on the north side of the building. Throughout construction, Bodell built and maintained temporary entrances and walkways for the facility. The client is very happy with the project, resulting in Bodell Construction receiving an excellent review from AAFES.
