Bodell Completes Repairs On University of Hawaii’s Telescope Building

During the summer of 2017, Bodell Construction completed repairs for the University of Hawaii’s 2.2 Meter Telescope at the Institute for Astronomy, Hilo, Hawaii. Bodell replaced the exterior siding, insulation, roofing and paint. The lightning protection system was upgraded with current specialty trim devices.

The project engineer was M3 from Tucson, Arizona and the Construction Manager was Bowers and Kubota of Waipahu, Hawaii.

The telescope has been in operation since 1970 and is located near the summit of Mauna Kea. This particular telescope has assisted in many major discoveries including the Kuipur Belt. These new renovations help to keep the facility up to date and in the best possible condition to assist scientists and visitors in their research.
